Ring of Fire, Circle of Life?

I am in Taiwan, the rain is falling, the dogs are wandering, and the motorcycles are whizzing by. I, too, will be on one in a few moments on my way to the best chinese noodles I have ever eaten. Taking it easy here, just visiting friends and playing real life Mariokart everyday. Yesterday I found that sweet nectar in the green can, all the way from America, Mountain Dew. I don't even want to say how much I paid for the pleasure of drinking it. Ok, about $1.50. Ugh! But all the cheap things here make up for it. Like the noodles I am about to eat. And bowling. And motorcycle rental. And the kung fu massage I plan to get tonight, where after 60 - 90 minutes they will put fire jars on my back, producing huge hickeys that will last a week. Mmmm... fire jars....

By the way I had a dream last night that I was pursuing a very large snake around the house I grew up in. It was a little scary at first, but after a while it appeared we had reached something of an impasse. So I had to speak Chinese with the snake, it's children (which I had earlier been trying trick it into eating), and some cats, in order to negotiate a final settlement that was agreeable to all. In the end we were all friends, but I just kept thinking I needed to study Chinese more.

. . . and I thought this blog had died. Good to see you're back posting; the talk of green nectar makes me wish I had a digital copy of the photo taken when we first discovered MD in a foreign land. Who can forget scrambling for change as we drained that vending machine of every can it had? Or our triumphant return to to present our treasure trove to that merry band of peons? Oh for those happy happy times!

btw, when are you going to post about nasubi? The people deserve to know!!!

glad to have you back. though i don't envy you being awoken by and earthquake.

it happened to me once, in TORONTO of all places...there was a small earthquake (maybe a 2) nearby. i woke up in the night and my bed was shaking. i fell back asleep and forgot about it.

woke up in the morning, didn't remember a thing, until i noticed all the pop bottles (i collect old bottles) on my windowsill were turned around in funny ways. then it came back to me.

i can't imagine a stronger quake...i would of really freaked out.

nasubi? ok wait until i get back to japan. rained all day yesterday here, so i got soaked on the motor scooter. accomplished very little, as well. sarumi email me about hiroshima. hkd thanks for stopping by. everybody sorry i have been too busy travelling to say much. but gathering material... hehehe. may not go anywhere again until august, so should be more consistent after april 4th or so. maybe.

Don't worry about it Hack, consistency is for small minds.
Sounds like you are having a great time traveling, so I look forward to hearing more about it.
Hmmm, snakes speaking chinese with baby snakes and cats, and chasing around your old house, that is dangerous all an it's own.
Sounds like the MD over there may have had a little something extra added.

Well, have fun, and be careful. Make sure you load up on turtle shells before getting on the motorcycle. We all want more posts, so you getting run over by donkey kong would be bad...or are you donkey kong?

Glad you're back. Was this the first earthquake you've been in, or were there others?

How can I send you stuff--let me know at bill@hpn-marketing.com!

Billy - you can send me some of that chocolate milk! (You know my address). Tony, are you fo'sha coming out here in August? I'm going to be in D.C. from July 11th through probably the 23rd (pending my fatalistic Sisyphean attempt to get on law review) so June would be way better. But let me know - I'm sure we can figure it out.

Hello all. Loved the dream about speaking Chinese to the snake. I would give you my Freudian interpretation, but I don't think you would want to know. I sent your blog to some old friends, but I won't name names and let them surprise you at the site. I will try to check in more faithfully. All my love and affection...

Wow--double digits! Go team!

BTucker: I am Toad. Manko chan is Donkey Kong. Who do you think you are?

BillG: Yes, I have been shaken my fair share of times while in Asia, but never elsewhere. What do you want to send me?

Gomeiyage: August is pretty likely; may not be able to travel in June because of a conflict with my university teaching schedule. Will you be in DC until AUGUST 23rd? Hmm.

LDMiller: I noticed you had a profile... "The Good Samaritan?" Is there a blog in the works? Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to echo the words so often heard in Bartles and Jaymes commercials of days long past: "Thank you for your support."

Saru: You have a dirty mouth. I suggest you leave it in Louisiana. ;)
